School: Bee Log Elementary School, Burnsville, NC |
Planned By: James Pate |
Original Author: James Pate, Burnsville |
Students go home to video games, unlimited video and other technology devices and then we ask them to come to school and read from a book with outdated pictures and text. There is not enough money to purchase new textbooks that will be out of date before they even arrive at the school or to purchase tablets and e-textbooks. This project allows the student to take content and become the author of their own textbook.
Focus: Students will be introduced to the use QR codes in everyday life. Students will then practice using QR codes and iPads by participating in a scavenger hunt around school.
Once students feel comfortable using the iPads and QR codes, they will begin to create their own codes using an online QR code creator.
Students will then be given sections on the chapters they are studying in either science or social studies to research and identify content that will enhance the information presented in the textbook. Once students have identified the content and created the QR codes, the codes will then be placed inside the books and be used by current and future students. |

We currently have iPod Touches but found that the iPod screen was not big enough to read the webpages and articles that the QR Codes would link to. |
