Using a device for each student. My 4th grade special education classroom will work with a High School classroom through Edmondo, Email, Skype to read Chapter books using different media designated by teacher and project. They will use ipods, ipads, Kindles or SKYPE to read and share material. The chapter books will be assigned by Chapter and activities for each chapter would be assigned with a deadline. These activities may be questions for comprehension to be answered correctly in complete sentences by 4th grader and checked by high schooler or another project ma be develop a video using the characters or settings of the story and present to class. Working together the pair of students will complete each chapter and project, the teachers also work together to develop rubrics and expectations for completed work. This will be shared at beginning of each assignments.
Books may be Science, Social Studies genre for cross curriculum experiences. |

Comments |
I have a special education small group classroom that needs homework help, encouragement to read. Having High Schoolers as mentors would be a valueable lesson in reponsibility. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
All areas of curriculum would be involved because it is a buddy tutor and reading program. Studnts do book reports, research science, social studies, communicate and develop projects. |
Follow-Up |
Students have a get together at the end of the year. Discussion with student of likes and dislikes of project and books so teachers can improve program each year. |
