1. What are American values? Students will brainstorm values that we have in common and share with a neighbor ideas. Then students will work together to define these values and give real life examples of these values. 2. Where do we learn these American values? Students will brainstorm where they learned these values and when this teaching began. Students will share with another student how these values have changed during their own lifetime. What their thoughts were as small children compared to their opinions today. How are they different from their parents or grandparents? 3. Who are some examples of upholding, sharing, and encouraging American values? Students will brainstorm important Americans and why they should be on the list. Students will then use their technology, ipads or computers to research one American and find an article where they did more than just be the poster child but drove the bandwagon bus. 4. Students with difficulty finding documents will be sent to links of college addresses, inaugural addresses, and farewell addresses. Recent presidents, entrepreneurial leaders, teens, and hollywood icons. 5. Students will create a animated cartoon encouraging others to be actIve. They will include ideas for their own community and develop a community project to build student participation in our own neighborhood. To be the I in actIve. |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Reading, Writing, Evaluating, Analyzing, Application. Students projects could include any subject, participating in a food bank, fundraiser for another class, a student, the list is endless. The goal is to create a local project. Later we will search for State, National, and Global projects. |
Follow-Up |
Students will work together designing a small local project to impact their community. They will implement the project and reflect on its success and how they could make it bigger and better next time. This is an example for individual activism and group activism. |
