This lesson plan is intended as an intervention strategy for a child or small group of children struggling with math.
The children will use the apps Find Sums and Splitting Numbers. In Find Sums the students fill a *10 grid with two different number of apples. After completing one grid, they will fill in a 10 grid on a piece of paper to make it look like the problem in the app. Then the student will take the same two numbers and fill in a *number split. The student will repeat this using the app Find sums three times.
Next, the student will use the app Splitting Numbers. They will complete the number split the app suggests. Then, they will fill in the number split on their paper and also fill in a 10 grid using the same numbers given from the app. The students will repeat this three times.
This activity is meant to reinforce basic number facts, math fluency, and one-to-one correspondence.

*10 grid- A tool used to visually how 10. It is a rectangle with 10 equal squares drawn in the middle.

*number split - A tool used to visually show how a sum can be split into two separate numbers. It has a square at the top with the sum inside. Coming from this square are two lines drawn below the top square. Each of these lines ends in another box. One addend is placed in each box.
Comments
There are many other apps that lend themselves to intervention strategies for small groups. Cell phones allow the students to work on skills independently. With the newest software for computers that allows you to reflect Android devices, this same lesson can be done whole group.
