This lesson is for a large group workout, much like what you will find when you join a gym. It will be implemented during physical education classes for a nine week period, every other day. The lesson is for 9-12 grade girls and boys all ability levels.
Using a large screen and overhead projector we will show whatever workout we will be doing that day. We will use an iPad for wireless internet access, connected to our gymnasium sound system and the projector. We will choose workouts according to our students' interest and the popularity of them. We believe the more the students are interested in the workout, the higher the intensity of their participation. At the beginning of each class we will randomly choose the students who will be wearing the FitBits for the workout.
At the beginning of the class we will complete a warm-up from a popular app. Once the warm-up is complete the whole class will complete a workout together. We will use workouts such as those shown on the Dr. Oz show, Shawn T's ab buster, etc. At the end of the class we will then display the students' workouts which were saved on the FitBit Activity Tracker. We will use the app that is connected to the FitBit Activity Tracker. We will look at and discuss the intensity of the workouts and the benefits we could gain. We will also discuss what we could do differently to increase the benefits.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
We can use the numbers we get from our activity trackers and get various facts and figures using math skills.
