--Differentiation-- - Preferential seating - Modified Homework - Extended time if necessary
--Learning Objectives-- The learner will be able to create a table and fill in two or more positive statements for every member of his or her class that will then be compiled and printed as a holiday gift for each student by the teacher.
--DOK Level-- DOK level 4 - create
--Introduction/Anticipatory Set-- Teacher will explain the importance of positive statements, using a quote from Harry Potter's Albus Dumbledore and 2015 "Microsoft spreads the Spirit of Giving on 5th" Holiday commercial as a exemplar. We will dissect the quote and commercial together as a class and at teacher prompted turn and talk with a partner intervals.

HIGHER LEVEL THINKING QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS COMMERCIAL: What makes this commercial controversial or interesting? Why might someone find this commercial inspiring?
ALBUS DUMBLEDORE QUOTE: "Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury and remedying it."
HIGHER LEVEL THINKING QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS QUOTE: How might someone inflict injury with words? How might a person remedy or fix an injury or problem with words? Have you ever been in a situation where words have made you feel better about a situation or problem?
--Modeling/Guided Practice-- Teacher will then direct students to the Google Classroom where they will open the shared Google Doc with the Positive Statement Table and make a copy to work on themselves.
--Independent Practice-- Students will spend the remainder of the period filling in positive statements about each of the students in the class. Students will be reminded that the statements are anonymous so they can feel free to be extra nice.
--Closure-- Teacher will ask students to share all completed tables with her. Teacher will then compile Positive Statement Lists for each student as a Holiday gift.
