Using the robot, Dash, students will program him to land on different numbers in order to make a specified total.

Students need to work in partners to choose a path for the robot to follow in order to make the numbers add up to the specified target.

Example: 10+5+6+4+10=30 (target number)

One student will program while the other writes down and adds the numbers. They can work together to choose which number should be added next.

If time permits they can switch jobs in order to give each student a chance to program the robot.

STEM lessons with human body, positional directions, places on a numberline, map locations
Follow-Up
ELA - allow students to narrate their path using beginning, middle and end.
Math - add and subtract one and two digit numbers using a different target number. Add a series of up to 4 digits.
Create a path to the different geometric shapes.
S.S. - directional words to describe the path you took

In case teachers want to spend more time on the process/extend the project.
ESL - Students could connect the pictures of the cake plus the cactus equals.
Enrichment - Challenge students to program a path that equals a higher number i.e. 110 or 120.
Remediation - Students can add the numbers on the path before programing the robot.
