Read All About It: Magazine Creation

Students will get into groups and design a magazine. Students will need to brainstorm sections they will have in their magazine (sports, food, new, science, etc.). Each student in a group will need to be in charge of one section of the group magazine. Students should discuss their target audience and plan what they want to include.

Each student's section must include a 2 page article with sub-headings and pictures, one advertisement, and one "extra" item. The "extra" items they may choose from include: comic, short story, poem, crossword puzzle, word search, sudoku, etc.

Students will need 1-2 class periods to research and write their articles and create the other items for their magazine sections. Allow students time after writing to peer edit.

Students can compile their magazine sections into one document and create a cover to share digitally in class, or they may individually email their sections and cover to the teacher to print and compile a hard copy to share in class.

Extension Options:
Teacher may allow students to choose to create a commercial to advertise their magazine. They should discuss how to market their magazine to their target audience. These should be videoed and shown to the class.

Teacher may allow students to choose to create a presentation to get funding for their new magazine. They should discuss ways they will market their magazine to get more sales and how they can make their business sound appealing to an investor. These should be videoed and shown to the class.
