Students will be given a "disaster" area; a maze of simulated rubble and obstacles with toy "victims" laid out in random areas. Students will need to design, build, and program robots to search for and rescue these victims.
Students will use the customizable Lego EV3 robots. Students will work in groups to design a robot that has all the necessary features of a rescue bot. This may include an arm for picking up victims, sensors for detecting objects/colors of objects, a flashlight to see in dark spaces, etc. Groups will then build the robots based on their design.
Groups will work together to program the robots so that they go through the "disaster" area without human assistance. The program will need to include conditional statements that check on values reported from sensors, variable declarations and definitions to hold values reported by sensors, and algorithms for driving through the area. |
