Objective: Develop an understanding of key STEM-specific concepts anchored by tier 2-3 vocabulary.
Audience: 7th-grade middle school students
Task 1: Students will research and generate STEM-specific tier 2 (high frequency/multiple meaning) and 3 (low frequency/content specific) vocabulary from their readings in science, technology, engineering, and math STEM core subjects.
Task 2: Students will create graphic informational texts using digital or media platforms to illustrate each topic using the corresponding vocabulary which will be used as a reference, resource, and during peer-to-peer learning.
Task 3: Students will use their illustrations to present their understandings with each other, lower grades, and partner schools in order to extend their understandings.
Closure: Students will select 3-5 STEM-specific vocabulary words in order to create a word wall showcasing their conceptual understandings. |
