ELA lesson plan
Three 45 minute periods

Learning Objectives:
Define and explain a shape poem
Write a shape poem
Present shape poem on document camera

Materials:

paper
colored pencils or crayons
list of literary elements (simile, personification, etc.)

CCSS:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.5
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.8.2.D

Instructions:
Distribute examples of shape poems
Instruct students to choose three things they like
Students will choose one of these and come up with a form/shape to identify with
Students will take two days to write out their shape poem
Student will present poem on document camera

Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on presentation skills (eye contact, voice, etc.)
