Reader’s Workshop:
Mini Lesson: Introducing theme and how it connects to making inferences- (In “reader’s notebooks- cut/glue umbrella template and add chosen themes.)

Show different themes on index cards. (Let students share experiences in their life that could relate to each theme)
(Project umbrella anchor onto document camera. Call students to add themes to the theme umbrella.)

Guided: Discuss Discussion Questions in partner groups- (Students will make inferences to determine different themes that occurred throughout the book).
1. Why do you think drawing is so important to Trisha?
2. Why do you think Trisha begins to hate school so much?
Think/Pair/Share thinking with other partner groups. Teacher will scan room to check understanding. Choose different partner groups to share their thinking with class.

Independent: Students will choose one of today’s discussion questions to answer in their reading journals online- Google document on their google drives. They must provide the theme and reasoning using text evidence. (Share google doc response with teacher when finished).

Reading Small Groups- (Station Rotations)
If students are not meeting with teacher, they will work on their group assignments in their guided reading google docs folder on Chromebooks. Once they are finished, they will work on their Board gaming project.

Pink: (RTI) - I station activity on theme. (chromebooks)

Orange: (Teacher led Guided Reading)- Meet with Teacher- Group discussion

Yellow: (Student led Guided Reading)- Group assignment/reading
(Record in google docs).

Blue: (Student led Lit Circle)- Meet with teacher- check in

Project Based Learning- Students will work on building a business project using their guided reading book. Students will use Tinkercad software to begin planning/designing 3D objects and design their store (using chrome books/iPads).
