We are a 4/5 neighborhood school GATE Cluster class in a Title 1 School.
Position:
teacher
Needs:
Every week we do a project called Friday Reporters. The kids are assigned 10 presentations to research and present throughout the school year. The topics vary from current event to daily vocabulary to personal interests to science experiments. It's a fun way to incorporate research and presentation skills. Videotaping the kids would provide another tool for students' critiquing their own presentations.
My Philosophy:
Kids love to learn and I love fostering their learning while teaching them the tools and strategies to be proactive participants in the systems of academia. All kids need explicit instruction in some skills and the chance to construct with other content. Active learners reflect on what they are doing so they breakdown myths and have the opportunity to formulate stronger thoughts. It's fun working with the kids to develop systems that work for our class.
