I teach a diverse group of 8th graders, ranging from Honors Algebra I students who are taking a high school credit course in middle school to a special education inclusion class of 8th grade math.
Position:
8th Grade Math Teacher
Needs:
Due to the recession, budget cuts at our school and in our district have significantly reduced available funding for classroom supplies, and I feel that I am not able to provide my students with the technological tools that match the needs of today's society.
My Philosophy:
I believe that school mathematics needs to be based on giving each student mathematical power through the development of problem-solving, reasoning and proof, and communication skills. I view my classroom as a collaborative community in which we explore challenging problem tasks together, developing significant mathematical concepts in context.
