Class Information:
Room Number: 18
Students per Class: 25
Class Description:
Our classroom has a wonderful representation of many cultures from around the world. 70% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many of my students speak English as a second language. On average, 40% of my students read below their grade level.
Position:
Technology Integrator
Needs:
Our Title 1 school has limited resources to integrate project-based learning with access to technological resources and training. We need up to date technology. We need training for our teachers. The average working number of computers for each class is 3. Our computers are old and the software is not current. I am investigating grants that would allow a rolling computer lab to allow computer access for all students on a weekly basis. My students need a digital media resources to help link their natural curiosity and enthusiasm with curricular goals.
My Philosophy:
I believe that it is important to incorporate technology in my curriculum in order for my students to stay up to date with the changing and challenging digital world. My passions lie in teaching media literacy and to think critically about the many messages that saturate our communities. Ibelieve that discussing who is telling the story and what voices are not heard, allows students to understand that there are many perspectives to historical events. I am pursuing a digital media resources that will provide our 4th grade students with the tools of digital media to craft, record, share, and inspire real-world possibilities by using photos as a stimulus for literacy activities. By planning carefully, imagining our students' perspectives, and collaborating with our learning community, I will increase comfort and confidence in my classroom through engaging activities and curriculum. From simple collages to a school paper, I believe that using cameras in the classroom will inspire and motivate storytelling through personal experience while building our classroom community. Your help in this format of storytelling will ensure that we become more creative, develop our communication skills, improve our verbal organizing skills, and expand our ability to empathize.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I feel that my extensive travel experiences have allowed me to develop an empathetic perspective to the human relationship. With every community I visit, I develop a greater respect for the diverse cultures surrounding us. I feel that the best teachers are students. I enjoy the challenges of learning cultural norms, economics and languages of each place I visit. My passion for promoting media literacy is enhanced by a variety of experiences in the media profession. In my classroom and as a community outreach volunteer at KQED, I am able to share my enthusiasm for media awareness though the development of engaging and interactive media curricula and assessment strategies. I am dedicated to providing experiences to my students that create awareness about the media they consume to make sure they thrive in today’s world of media and technology.
