I serve five hearing handicapped children, ages 3 years to 6 years old in a self-contained classroom which is a new class and is the only one of its kind in our district.

Needs:
Being able to capture and use pictures will enrich the language development, both receptively and expressively of the young hearing-handicappedchildren. Having a classroom camera which will take both still and video will enable me to provide real-life, real-time illustrations of language vocabulary and construction.
My Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is to give young children the tools needed to become successful and being able to communicate is the most important tool my students need.

About Me:
I am the Preschool-Kindergartenteacher for my districti's Hearing-HandicappedProgram. My classroom is at Flowertown Elementary School in Summerville, SC. With a 31 year teaching career, I have worked with children in high school, middle school, and elementary--includingSpecial Education, Gifted Education, Regular Education, and Parent Education.
College and Degrees:
My BA degree from Lenior-Rhyne College is in Education of Hearing-Handicappedstudents K-12 and my M.Ed. from the College of Charleston is in Learning Disabled. I have been a certified parent educator for 15 years.
Activities:
I enjoy reading, camping,gardening,crafting, and singing on my church's worship team. In addition to teaching and being a wife and mother, I am loving being a new grandmother.
Favorite Books:
My favorite books are set in the low-country of South Carolina and/or are written by low-country authors. Eve Bunting and Lois Ehlert are two of my favorite authors of children's literature.

I teach to enable preschool handicapped children to develop skills necessary to become productive citizens and lifelong learners.
