Students per Class: 25 to 30 in a class; 327 Students in Theatre (2 teachers)
Class Description:
6th Grade Theatre, Theatre 7/8, Advanced Theatre, News Broadcast; Students learn to appreciate, experience, and explore all things theatrical (history, analysis, technique, performance, and technology). In Broadcast class, students produce live news every day that is then streamed onto our school home page.
Position:
Theatre Arts Teacher & News Broadcast
Needs:
With our large classes and high student interest in theatre, having more (and easy) access to technology is imperative. We use cd players and i-pod players and speakers as well as movie cameras and laptops for filming and editing projects (shared by our campus). The more access we have to these items, the smaller the groups can be to work on the projects and the more often we can use the technology.
My Philosophy:
As a teacher of theatre arts, I hope to impart to my students not only the enjoyable and fun aspects of drama, but also the serious craft behind it all. I also feel that teaching theatre should not be limited to stage theater - today's student needs (and wants) to learn skills that apply to TV and film as well. If high enough quality and choice technology is provided and the skills to use it are taught -- then students will have skills that are directly applicable to the real world job market of today.
