My class is made up of anywhere from 70-80 students on a daily basis. I teach Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy. Students switch classes based on their academic ability so I see the entire 5th grade population every day. In addition to content classes, I team teach an after-school program called the Swift Run Python Group. Another teacher and I have a total of 20 ball pythons that we raise here at school. We use the snakes to promote the learning of things unknown, as many people fear reptiles. The program offers lessons on genetics and heredity as well as many Virginia SOL's.
Position:
5th Grade Teacher
Needs:
We are in dire need of resources we can use to spark more interest in the students of the technological age.
My Philosophy:
You must be constantly taught in order to be a teacher.
Personal Information:
About Me:
Hi! My name is Justin Hitt and I was born and raised in the area I teach in. I attended a local area high school in which I was involved in extra-curricular activities including: Track, Football and Baseball. I am currently engaged to be married this summer. My fiance and I are house hunting and have two lovable bundles of joy called Dax and Duke. They are our "fuzzy four-legged kids."
College and Degrees:
I then attended Blue Ridge Community College for my associates before transferring to James Madison University for my Bachelor's in InterdisciplinaryLiberal Studies. Immediately after graduation I applied and stayed at JMU for my Master's in Education.
Activities:
I enjoy spending time with the Swift Run Python Group and raising awareness about many types of snakes as well. Outside of work I seek out friends and family to do fun activities such as hiking, camping and hunting on occasion. I am a sports fanatic and love to go tailgating and follow my favorite sports teams during the different seasons.
Favorite Books:
I am a history fanatic and specifically find my interests raised in any non-fiction WWII read. (Not appetizing for many readers I teach)
Favorite Quotes:
"Strive for progress, not perfection"
"Dreams don't work unless you do"
"Teachers who love teaching, teach children who love learning."
I started working for Rockingham County Parks and Recreation throughout my college career.
I am now in my second year of employment for Rockingham County Public Schools and loving it!!!
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I was first taught. By those previous words, I mean my adolescence was deeply enriched by the leaders and examples around me. I was fortunate to grow up with charismatic role models, including my teachers, that made the world of learning a vast wondrous land ready for exploration. I became a teacher to hold open the door for wonder and excitement with learning. I strive to be a role model, leader, and care-taker of my students well-being for a lifetime after starting the journey with them in my 5th grade class. I became a teacher to make a positive difference in all the lives that I cross paths with.
