I teach a special education classroom where differentiation is key and behaviors are as diverse as the needs. While academics are always our focus, we often times become overly involved in social interaction...howwe get along with others
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
Our classroom needs vary from year to year, depending on the ages of the children as well as the individual needs of each student. Having said this, one constant from year to year is the need for updated technology. I have dreams where all of my students are "plugged in" to the net, as we take a voyage on our smart board (which we do not have yet!) to lands far and wide! We can reach further through the global village that is the internet than we have ever been able to before...each one of my students, on their own wireless laptop, with their own video camera and microphone, speaking, interviewing, chatting with "friends" from all across the globe, sharing ideas from solving global warming to how to reduce the amount of trash our school cafeteria produces each and every day...the possibilities are endless...yet, we must begin that voyage to test the waters of the limitless opportunities.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is simple and somewhat cliché...if you give each child an opportunity to shine, show them the path not yet taken, they will show you just how brightly lit that path can become...each child deserves an opportunity to learn in their own way...freedom to test the waters, to get their feet wet when all along, they were afraid to swim.
