My class is a very colorful classroom at a Title One school that received a grade A this past year! I am an advocate for early literacy skills and acceleration, as my Masters Degree was in Early Literacy. I have a passion for the arts and spent a good portion of my life participating in: dance, musical theatre, poetry, art, and writing lyrics. I hope to pass on the creativity I enjoy to my students via our curriculum.
Position:
TEACHER
Needs:
I would LOVE a document camera in my classroom. I am in a portable and understand I would need one on a cart. I have used the "doc cam" in the past to model assignments, but mainly for science lessons. We cover animal life cycles in first grade science curriculum and to my knowledge, my school does not provide us with the animals and larvae. In the past, I have hatched meal worms, butterflies, brine shrimp and tadpoles. Additionally, we zoomed way in using a document camera and viewed all animals at various stages of their life cycle by using a zoom in feature. The students were in awe as they could not see the changes with the naked eye. We watched closely as our animals changed and grew over time, documenting it all in a science journal. Additionally while studying plants and habitats, we took flowers from the school grounds and zoomed in to see the parts of the flower up close that we learned about. Additionally the students noticed that small insects were inside that they could not see! This was a GREAT learning opportunity. My current school is not as technologically advanced and I would really like to expose my students to this vast scientific knowledge that lies beneath a zoom in document camera!
My Philosophy:
To have fun while learning. The most memorable experiences students have come back year after year to visit me with are related to the fun extensions and lessons I provide the students. Whether it was learning about mammals via a song and dance, or documenting the life cycle of a tadpole- they all come back and thank me for specific areas that I know were NOT in my teacher edition books. It was always something I did on my own.

Why Do I Teach?:
WHY NOT! I always worked with children by babysitting, being a counselor, or tutoring. I would catch myself while babysitting, teaching a three year old how to recognize letters of his name. I knew that I had to do this for a living. I love reflecting back on the year and looking at the vast amount of progress my students make. Education is one thing I learned no one can take away from me, so I continue to get more degrees and have a desire to go back for a Doctorate after my upcoming wedding.
