I teach 8th grade math and Algebra 1 in a rural setting.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Our school was built three years ago. Since we are a new school we have many needs. I would love to have a class set of computers on a mobile cart! If not a whole class set, then 8 laptops to use with student groups (class sizes vary from 19 - 32). That's my number one wish, but I understand it is too much to ask in this kind of setting. In the meantime, I am using a borrowed set of Senteo Smart Response clickers and I would love to have a set permanently in my classroom.
My Philosophy:
I believe that teaching our children is an awesome responsibility. Everything I do in the classroom each day is done with the goal of helping my students to grow and learn as much as possible during their time with me. I try to encourage my students' problem solving skills on a daily basis. There are so many opportunities to explore real world problems with timely data on the Internet. I would love to have this opportunity with my students. The laptops offer an exciting way to help students to grow who do not learn in the traditional methods in a math class. There are so many online learning explanations, activities, and games that will reinforce the concept until the student does have mastery.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have lived in NC, IL, OK, MI, and TX as my husband was transferred with his company. We have now permanently settled in North Carolina. My personal children are grown. My number of school "children" grows every year. I love being in a situation where I see my former students as adults and hear about their lives. I love all my students and wish only the best for them.

Favorite Books:
I read all kinds of books, one of my favorites in a long time is the Hunger Games series. I read it to be able to talk to my students about what they were reading and after the first book, I had to run out and buy the other two in the trilogy for me!
Why Do I Teach?:
I have been teaching for over 20 years and I am excited about the future of technology in my classroom. I would like to have the Senteo system for my students to have instant feedback from pre- and post- assessments. Thank you for donating!
