I teach three different STEM classes to 7th & 8th grade students. My first class is Medical Detectives which teaches students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, examine nervous system structure and function, and investigate disease outbreaks.
Thesecond class I teach is Automation and Robotics which students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
My third class that I teach is Design & Modeling which students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy. Students also learn and practice using a CAD design program and 3D printing.
Position:
STEM Teacher
Needs:
The needs that I have in my classroom are updating my desktop computers for classroom use. Students are issued a Chromebook for school use but some of the programs that I use in my classroom can not be used on their Chromebook. My desktop computers are starting to become old and not as reliable as they once were.
My Philosophy:
I believe in giving every student that walks through my classroom door a chance at learning something new. I'm upfront with my students that I'm aware that STEM isn't for everyone but my goal is to find something that we discuss in class that might peek their interest. Usually by the end of the quarter/semester,students enjoyed what we did and worked on in class.

Why Do I Teach?:
I was the type of student who struggled with academics and had to work hard to achieve the good grades that I earned. I strive to give every one of my students a learning environment that they are achieve great things in. I want to be that teacher that students look back on and remember how much of a positive influence I was on their life while in Junior High.
