I Believe…
…if I hold students accountable academically and behaviorally, they will meet all expectations and gain self-esteem in the process.
…eachstudent is an individual with important individual needs and strengths to which we should strive to attend.
…parentinvolvement is a necessity and teachers should strive to cultivate that relationship.
…childrenshould be challenged to think critically, independently, and responsibly.
…teachersshould be prepared and provide a structured, secure environment to ensure maximum learning.
…teachersshould maintain optimum professionalism and self-control while in the classroom and on campus.
…in nurturing my students for life beyond G.C. Hawley Middle School.
…extracurricular learning is essential for providing a variety of experiences.
…globallearning and cultural awareness is a vital part of a strong education.
…weshould celebrate all successes, small and large.
…there should be a strong support throughout the school – encompassing students, teachers, administrators and parents.
…in respect for all people.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I was born and raised in New York until I was 14. My family then relocated to Durham, North Carolina, and I went to Jordan High School and graduated in 1991. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Middle School Education in 1995 from UNC-CH and received my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Scranton University (PA) in 2008. My husband, who is also a teacher, and I have three children, and we live in Creedmoor.
I am a “jack-of-all-trades”- I have taught math, science, language arts, social studies, computers, exceptional children, and even PE over the last 15 years. I have taught in public, private and charter schools, so I have a world of experience to bring to Hawley Middle School, and I look forward to teaching your child science this year!
