I teach Reading and Social Studies. The 5th grade curriculum for Social Studies is American History.

My Philosophy:
"The function of schooling is not to enable students to do better in school. THe function of schooling is to enable students to do better in life" ~Elliot Eisner. I try to make my class as "real world" as I can while still teaching the necessary standards and benchmarks. I have my students do a lot of research projects, which helps them learn content while strenghthing problem-solving problem skills. It also introduces them to using technology, which is vital for 21st century students.
