I'm in a classroom of 25 students in a school building that is 50 years old. My school is located on the south side of Ogden City in Northern Utah. It is a midsized urban area with income from poverty to wealthy. We serve 368 students with an increasingly transitory population. Our K through 6th grade school has 14.5 teachers,
an ESL and 4 school assistants that teach in rooms with about 27 students. The students range in abilities from gifted to special needs and we provide services to each level of instruction. 38% of the students receive free meals, 13% pay reduced fees,
and 4% of our population is homeless. 31% have a minority status as black, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander; 26 of these students receive English language services with first languages in Spanish, Japanese, and Vietnamese.
