I serve students in a resource pull-out, in classroom inclusion, and whole class enrichment. I work with students to advance and enhance the classroom curriculum and help them learn to incorporate higher order thinking skills and critical thinking skills into their daily lives. The variety of methods used to facilitate advance learning helps reach more than just our labeled "gifted" students. Technology is the basis for everything I do.
Needs:
Our school is in very much need of a technology "cleanse". I need to have internet access in the hands of each student I work with on a daily basis. Portable access would allow me to open up the world to every student in grades 4-6 as I go into classrooms. Our school needs to work towards become as paperless as possible in order to help heal and protect our environment.
My Philosophy:
I believe we are educating children for a different, possibly unknown tomorrow. At the right of technological change, it is impossible to know what the future holds for today's student. However, what will not change is creativity, flexibility, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership qualities, and the ability to make judgements and draw conclusions. It is important that no matter the curriculum, we enable all students to be self sufficient, life long learners who can and will embrace the challenges of tomorrow.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been an educator in our county for the past fifteen years. Three of these years I taught fourth grade, five years were spent with fifth graders, two years in second and third grades, and five years as an Academically Gifted teacher. Each year I grow to love my job even more! It is a great joy to play an important part in the development of a young child's life. I am honored to continue to do so. My own family consists of my husband, my four wonderful children (all under 12!) our Boxer puppy, and my cat. I am the Youth Director at my church, a new role for me! I enjoy working with children and youth. They have their own special way of molding those around them. Not only do they learn from the adults in their lives, but they certainly teach us as well!
