Our classes are made up of students from various socio-economic backgrounds. Some students receive free or reduced lunch, while others are full pay. We have a variety of ethnicity groups, Asians, African-Americans,Native Hawaiians or Pacific Islanders, Caucasian, and Latinos. Several students also are mainstreamed into our classes with special reading and processing needs. Traditionally music classes have consisted of reading and singing songs from music books. While we enjoy this activity, students love learning online and we wanted to explore more interactive devices for students to use in music.
Position:
Music Teacher
Needs:
We recently purchased an online software program, Quaver's Marvelous World of Music. This program is ideal for meeting needs of individual students. Students can practice reading and writing music and learn basic music composition skills, and can work at their own rate. I can work with students individually and help students who need extra assistance. While we have Promethean Boards in all regular academic classrooms, art and music classrooms have projectors only.Students in music classes need iPads in order to compose music in Garage Band and other online music notation programs. I would like to start with the purchase of one iPad through Digital Wish and additionally would like a projector to Ipad cable so I can display and enlarge compositions. Students can bring laptops from their classrooms to work on compositions until I can purchase more iPads. We have 710 students at our school. I teach music 3 days a week and my colleague teaches music 2 days, (when I am working as Elementary Music Director for our district). A projector to Ipad cable and an Ipad would be of great use to both of us as we seek to improve music literacy and composition skills with our music students.
My Philosophy:
Music is all about experiencing it! We love singing and dancing and playing instruments, and the kids are also having a great time learning to read and write music with Quaver's Marvelous World of Music, an online curriculum our district recently purchased. Students in my school can bring laptops to music class and access Quaver, playing interactive games, writing rhythms and reading lines and spaces on the staff. Now we want to take this step further by incorporating more programs, such as Garage Band, and other online Music Apps. To do so we need an iPad and projector to Ipad cable so I can project my activities for the class to see.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach music to 1st-5th graders and also teach chorus and music gifted and talented classes. I love teaching music, the energy and enthusiasm it brings to my students. I love to create and make music, and show students how to read and notate music so they can learn to write their own songs, and create their own music to share with others!
