Class Description:

Position:
Second grade teacher
Needs:
My students make the most progress with lots of technology integrated into the curriculum. I use websites/apps that offer ability based/grade leveled activities which utilize immediate feedback that addresses individual student weaknessess. So our greatest need at this time is getting our technology classroom resources in place.

Why Do I Teach?:
I am on a new adventure! I am part of a fabulous new team which will be opening a new public charter school in August, 2013. Louisiana Key Academy, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be teaching K – 2 struggling readers and students with dyslexia. This is definitely my passion project. I have been teaching for 29 years, have a Master’s degree in Reading, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I am very ecstatic to be able to teach my second grade students who need and require a different approach to being a successful learner. Our “no textbook” model with a multi-sensory approach will be able to reach our class sizes of 17 and 12, with an interventionist, to address even more individual weaknesses. My mission is to make sure every child feels they are accepted as an individual by giving them every opportunity to develop to his/her potential. I will help each student to develop a positive self-esteem and a sense of self-worth. Although we are starting this adventure from scratch, I am confident that many supporters will sponsor our classroom to help us set up a 21st century class for my techno students.
