Class Description:
I teach students who are new to the United States. This year I have students from Chile, Burma, and Mexico. Most of my students are refugees. Many have been involved in jungle warfare in their home countries.
Position:

Needs:
I am in need of 8 pairs of headphones and a video camera. The headphones are needed for our computer-based vocabulary program. The video camera will be used to help the students create a videologue. Specifically we would like to create a video about junior high students experiencing culture shock. It is our hope that this can be used to help other newcomer students process their experiences here in the United States.

I am married and have 3 children. My children are 5,7, and 9. I lived in Thailand for several years and taught English to college students.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach junior high students who have just entered the country. I currently have 33 students from Chile, Burma, and Mexico. All of my students are LEP. All are at-risk. Most of my student are refugees. I teach because I hope to inspire my students the way they inspire me. My hope is to help them adjust to their new lives in America so that they can achieve all that they hope for and more.
