James River High School
Class Information:
Room Number: 1415
Students per Class: 90
Class Description:
I teach high school art to students ranging from Art I to AP Studio Art, grade 9 to seniors, and every income bracket. Art is a universal language, and gives a voice to children who would not otherwise be heard.
Position:
art teacher
Needs:
I only have two student computers in my room, and they are getting pretty old. They take up studio workspace, but my students love having internet access in the classroom for art research and to produce and alter imagery to be used in their own art work. I would like to have either laptops (which would allow for more flexible studio space) or newer desktop computers. I only have one digital camera, and would love to have at least three or four cameras. I do a narrative art project in which students have to illustrate a story from their literature book using figures, and they pose and photograph other students to get the actions shots to work from. The camera is the best tool for getting accurate figure proportions, and the assignment forces the students to break the stories down into step by step illustrations. Additionally, students are preparing portfolios for college and the AP exam, and are constantly shooting slides. I would like my advanced students to prepare a digital portfolio for submission to colleges, and in fact for the rest of their careers, since that is the method used for online galleries as well as traditional art galleries.
