Our high school journalism program is trying to revive itself, and is full of dedicated students just itching to produce a professional publication, but struggling to do so without much manpower or hardware. The 07-08 school year was run by a staff of 6 students, with some writing help from some other students in an introductory course. What they managed was amazing, especially after one of our two cameras broke half-way through the year. Check out our website: they have PDF's of the issues posted online.
Position:
Newspaper Advisor
Needs:
High-quality digital cameras, memory cards, tripods, zoom lenses/high speed cameras for sporting events, etc.
My Philosophy:
Simply put: let the students learn from their mistakes, too. I can't teach them everything. I take my role as advisor very seriously and I tell them what is good and what is not, what is smart and what is not. Sometimes they don't want to listen, and then they hear criticism from other teachers and their peers when the paper comes out. So far, those mistakes have been some of the most instructive and motivating moments of the year.

Why Do I Teach?:
