I often tell people that teaching is not what I do- it is who I am. It is a part of my everyday life. I am inspired by my love for the Lord, my students, my friends, and family. I told my mom, when I was seven years old, that I was going to be a teacher. And so I am.
Here is my personal mission statement to my students....
I will do my best to teach you and love you and never give up on you.
You might not be great at math, or you might have illegible handwriting, but you are teachable. You are not perfect, and neither am I. You might think greater of yourself than you ought. I will daily strive to help you to see yourself through the eyes of God.
I will help you set goals. You might not know what your goals are; it is my job to help you define those. I will work with your parents to explain that which you do not know or do not understand. I will help you to see your strengths and help strengthen where you are weak. I do not expect you to be a straight “A” student, but I do expect you to give your very best and use the words “I can” and forget the words “I can’t”.
I will be your biggest cheerleader at school, your guidance counselor and your leader. At times, I will be your friend, but it is being your authority and teacher that I strive to be. I will help you when you fail and never will I think you are dumb. I will learn from you. In our classroom, we will all learn from each other.
Our classroom is a bully-free zone. It will be a safe place.
I will laugh with you, cry with you, and we will have fun. It is my goal to help you to want to come to school to learn. I want you to love learning.
If you have needs or hurts or anything I can help with, please share with me. If I cannot help, I will pray for you and ask God to provide someone who can.
When I make mistakes, and I will, I will ask you to forgive me and I will expect the same from you.
I will listen to what you are not saying and hear what you are.
I will pray with you, for you and forgive with you. I will ask for guidance daily from the Holy Spirit to guide me in how best to teach and love you.
I promise to give you all that I can and to do my best to teach you, because you, Child of God, are teachable.
