Horace Mann Elementary School
Hometown:
Binghamton, New York
Class Information:
Students per Class: About 400
Class Description:
Our "little Library that can" has BIG ideas of projects we could do, resources we could create, if only we had the equipment! We serve students in the inner city, who need to be exposed to great technology to compete in the world. With help, our students could really go places!
Position:
Teacher-Librarian
Needs:
With a good digital video camera, we could connect to schools in our community, or far away, to learn from our global community. We have already made the connections to schools in Europe, Asia and the Middle East; with a camera, we could make those connections exciting and interactive. Witha camera AND Bridgit software for SMART Boards, our students and teachers could learn together with students around the world! Students already know how to use the SMART Boards; with Bridgit they could share lessons, learn from other teachers, explore the world from their classroom.
My Philosophy:
I believe that the right tools can generate excitement in the classroom, and students need to learn to use these tools before they join the work force. Their world will be one of digital information, global connections and instant learning. We need to teach our students to use these tools as easily as they use a pencil and paper, if they are to compete in the global economy when they graduate.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
B.A. and M.L.S. - University of Buffalo Certificate,K-12 Technology Integration - University of Florida (Plus numerous credits from other colleges and universities)
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because it is the most exciting profession; I can watch ideas blossom, and learn along with the students. No day is the same, and every day can be a challenge with great rewards. I teach because teachers change the future.
