Class Description:
I teach Physical Education/fitness/healthbased lessons at an elementary school where the students only see me once a week for 45-55 minutes. In 2008 the state of MS is requiring that all students receive 150 minutes of quality physical education a week as well as 45 minutes once a week of a sequential health curriculum (due to MS leading the nation in the rate of childhood obesity!).

Needs:
Innovative pe equipment that specifically can be easily transported or utilized in a small space (due to no gymnasium). Looking to integrate technology into PE in the form of easy to use programs that address getting kids moving and making healthy food choices.

About Me:
I am a 31 year old Physical Education teacher and Cross Country Coach that is passionate about health and fitness. I love triathlons, I love inspiring people to change their health habits for the better. In the famous words of Ghandi-"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
College and Degrees:
I have a bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewaterin Physical Education (K-12), Adaptive PE, Health Education, and Coaching Education. I have additional certifications in Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid, Water Safety Instruction. I am also ACE personal training certified.
Activities:
My main passion is the sport of triathlon. I love to swim, bike and run. I also enjoy traveling, shopping, and reading!

Interests:
I am interested in humanitarian efforts. I love sports in general especially human interest stories within the sports world. I like music, dancing, and children!
Employment History:
I graduated from college in December of 2000. I spent the spring of 2001 working in the Appleton School District as a long term sub as well as in the West Allis School District and Cudahy School District all located in Wisconsin. In the fall of 2001 I was hired full time at Templeton Middle School where I taught 6-8 PE and 6-8 Health and coached volleyball and basketball. I then went on in 2002 to teach at Sussex Hamilton HS teaching 9-11 grade health and fitness classes. In May of 2004 I worked part time at a local health club creating a triathlon specific training program. I then taught in the Cudahy School District as a long term substitute. In July of 2005 my husband and I moved to Gulfport, MS (4 weeks before Hurricane Katrina) and both received jobs teaching Physical Education in the Ocean Springs, MS school district. We both teach elementary PE and are the head coaches for the boys/girls Cross Country team.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach to empower my students that their health and well being is up to them. I inspire my students to make healthy choices everyday and that being fit is fun...if you let it be!
