I teach 7th grade math and pre-algebra to 7th grade students. Denton Middle School, formerly Azalea Middle School, has started clubs to help reach the students at Denton MS. The teachers at Denton want the students to be more involved in our school and community. We will be using digital cameras in our photography club, Len and Shutter, on a daily basis to record student activities, illustrate family units and traditions, find geometric figures in the real world, create a scrapbook of the students’ year that will be published to a DVD, and allow underachieving students to find their voices and realize their self-worth. As the Lens and Shutter club grows and increases in numbers, we would like to expand our project into the community by visiting local nursing homes to record the lives of the residents and become involved in local politics by interviewing our city and state leaders.
Position:
Teacher Math & Camera Club
Needs:
Currently, the students at Denton MS will need 15 point and shoot digital cameras, 15 memory cards for the cameras, and 15 camera cases. As the club expands, we would like to start a podcast and use video recorders for biographical information.
My Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is forever evolving. The practices I used in my classroom my first year of teaching have been culled, amended, and expanded. Over the years, I have realized that students internalize and engage in my lessons when they are active – not just learning facts the way I learned in school. The four main ideas that shape my philosophy of teaching are: (1) I believe that by incorporating other subject areas into my own increase my students’ grasp of a concept, (2) I believe that technology is the direction of the future and must be connected to a student’s learning process – we are training children for jobs that have not yet been created!, (3) I believe that reflection is an integral part of the learning process. (4) I believe students thrive when in a loving, caring, safe environment.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching since I graduated in 2000. I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade - I like teaching 7th grade the best! In 2002, my family and I moved to Mobile and we have never been happier. The weather is great, the beaches are beautiful and the people are friendly - we just love it here!
In my spare time, I enjoy working on my computer, photography, reading, hiking/camping, fishing, volunteering, and learning new things (anything). My favorite subject is math with science running a close second! I am also what you could call a "Geek" (and, yes, I have been called that :)) I enjoy working on computers - HTML, CSS, and programming. I have directed several computer seminars while in the private sector and trained employees on MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, and Word Perfect. I love to go on short weekend trips. My two favorite places to visit are New Orleans - I love Jackson Square - and Orange Beach. I am also a supporter of Organ Donation as my father was the recipient of a kidney (1980) and a heart (1987).

Favorite Quotes:
For attractive lips,
speak words of kindness.
Forlovely eyes,
seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure,
share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair,
let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise,
walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People,even more than things,
have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed,
and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember,if you ever need a helping hand,
you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands;
one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.
