We are an industrial trade school in the nation's Rustbelt. I teach visual art to welders, machinists, auto technicians, and construction students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. An art credit is required for graduation, so I begin many a school year convincing reluctant students that art is not only relevant but vital. I teach art as visual problem solving and communication - with just a little therapy thrown in to round things out. We all have stories to tell and thoughts to share.
Position:
Fine Arts Department Chair
Needs:
Because Visual Art is not a subject that is tested as a state requirement for graduation, I fear that my classes are often overlooked when it comes to allocating funds. The two computers in my classroom were built in the last century, as was every other bit of technology handed down to my department. (sigh...)
Oh! The lessons I could teach if I only had the availability of digital cameras, an LED projector, a quality photo printer, a supply of inks and paper.
But mere longing doesn't make wishes come true. I have decided I must be proactive; and so, you have found me here!

"As long as the world shall last there will be wrongs, and if no man objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs would last forever."

Why Do I Teach?:
I love to think, to create, and to solve problems. I love to laugh, and tell stories, and help others. I teach because I want to share my passion for the arts with the next generation. I teach because it fulfills my altruistic nature. I teach so that I might help make the world a better place.
