Wilder-Waite Elementary School
Hometown:
Woodstock, IL
Class Information:
Room Number: 8
Students per Class: 15
Class Description:
It is reading frenzy in my classroom. As a special education teacher, my focus, and focus of my students, is to close the gap in reading. We work relentlessly on reading strategies that focus on the five pillars of reading: Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Fluency. My students struggle with reading, but often, there are not enough resources that can be allocated to them. I want to make reading a good experience for them and give them the confidence to become successful in their classrooms and with reading. I am the special education teacher for grades 3-5 for my building. I also serve as the intervention specialist for our school's "Student Success Team." I serve as a resource for all teachers when they are searching for technology or adaptations for their struggling students. The staff at our school works collaboratively to find successful adaptations and accommodations for all students.
Position:
Special Services Teacher
Needs:
-Digital Camcorder -Digital Voice Recorder -SpellingAces Talking Dictionaries
My Philosophy:
I believe all students can learn. I believe that Dr. Seuss said it best when he wrote, '"We've taught you that the Earth is round, that red and white make pink, and something else that matters more; we've taught you how to think!" I believe in the power of self-determinationin students with special needs and the importance of self advocacy, reflection, and metacognition.
