I teach first grade in a self-contained, inclusive classroom.
Position:
First Grade Teacher
Needs:
In order to meet the needs of my diverse learners and to make learning more meaningful and fun for them, I would love to have access to more technology in my classroom. We would love to have a few Flip Video cameras to use for posting pictures on our class blog, documenting our learning and creative processes, and creating slideshows and animoto presentations that "show what we know."
My Philosophy:
I believe that all children can learn if given the opportunity. I try my best every year to teach the children that I have, not the children that I wish I had. I do this by differentiating instruction, integrating student choice into my lessons, and by paying attention to the specific learning styles of my students.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a teacher, a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, and a friend. I wear many hats in the course of a day, and I am fortunate in that I wouldn't change a thing. Given the choice, I would choose this life.
College and Degrees:
I earned my bachelor's degree and teaching credential from California State University, Chico. I also have a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading instruction.
Activities:
I am a lover of life! I read. I run. I play. I cook. I write. Besides my family and my classroom, these are the things that give me joy.
Favorite Books:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, The Giver, A Separate Peace, The Giving Tree
Favorite Quotes:
"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale." - Hans Christian Anderson
Employment History:
I have been teaching for the past 10 years. During that time I have taught in both kindergarten and first grade and have come to love seeing the world through the eyes of my young students.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love watching the faces of children the moment that the "lightbulb" comes on!
