Next year, I want my eighth grade science students to create an electronic portfolio to document their learning. This ePortfolio will include the students' reflections on the state content standards as well as artifacts of their work that demonstrate their understanding of the state content standards.
In order to create artifacts for this ePortfolio, we need digital video cameras (preferably Flip Video Cameras) to record experiments, presentations, and final projects. This ePortfolio will also build student competence in 21st Century Skills: incorporating audio/video editing; utilizing scanners, netbooks, and document cameras; and designing effective digital presentations.
My Philosophy:
I believe the purpose of education is to create adults who are life-long learners that know how to think and problem solve. In this age of information, I believe students need to know how to find and analyze information, rather than memorize all the facts in a given subject. Due to my belief that student retention of learning is greatest when students discover the connections themselves, I incorporate as much inquiry-based, hands-on investigations as I can.
