I teach primary minority and lower-income students who live in the Lower East Side and East Village of Manhattan. Approximately thirty percent of my students have special education needs.
Position:
Science and Technology Coordinator
Needs:
My classroom would be greatly enriched by the addition of a laptop cart. We use several internet based tools as part of our regular curriculum, but as I only have limited access to the school laptop cart (we have one cart for 20 teachers), I do not get to use these tools often enough for them to be truly expensive. We could also use force probes for use in our physics unit. Finally, when my classroom moved into the science lab, I lost access to a smartboard--a tool that I once used as part of my regular lessons.
My Philosophy:
A strong science background is essential for being able to make informed decisions about how we live. Understand science not only helps us learn to live healthier lives, it allows us to understand the natural world and how our activities affect it.
