I am a first grade teacher at a Title I Kindergarten - fifth grade, urban, magnet elementary school. The academic needs of my students are vast, and their abilities range from above level to specific learning disabilities. Many students have social, behavioral, and emotional challenges that sometimes spill over into the classroom.
Becausewe are a magnet school, our students are bussed from different areas and our school community consists of a variety of family structures. Because the school is so far from most students' neighborhoods, we consistently lack parental involvement.
Position:
1st Grade Teacher
Needs:
Our school has consistently maintained a school grade of B, but we dropped to a C school this year, so we need to create standards based, engaging lessons this year and make our students successful. We need to create a culture for learning where students work cooperatively as they search for meaning, develop personal responsibility, and have an attitude of acceptance and tolerance for our differences. We also need to promote parent involvement to make the entire educational experience complete.
My Philosophy:
I believe all students can learn and I have high expectations for what they can achieve. It is imperative that we celebrate our progress, relish in the process and highlight the product.
