Can you imagine sitting in a classroom-- feeling behind and trying to catch up? You're feeling confused and unable to process the information correctly because your foundation for math and number sense is below grade level. It's tough! It's harder when you are the teacher, and you want your students to excel, understand, and retain the material.
I currently teach sixth grade math at Baychester Middle School, a Title I school in the Bronx. My classroom consists of special education and general education students, with a mixture of advanced learners and students with learning disabilities in math. My students are very bright, are excited about learning and always look for new ways to practice what they learn. But, I do have many students that are currently performing below grade level in math.
I believe by creating a technology-based learning environment, my students will become more engaged in the math learning process. It will provide the motivation and confidence needed for students to perform their best, as well as develop a new-found love for math that was not previously evident.
Position:
Math Teacher
My Philosophy:
Math is a struggle for many students. As a teacher, my goal is to give students positive experiences in math so that they are more willing to take the risks that are necessary to master the content.
The most rewarding part of my job is that the students want to learn more about math, and that motivates me to provide the best learning environment possible.
