My classroom is like a library because I want students to share my love of reading. My favorite subjects to teach are Science and Writing. My students range in reading abilities from 2nd grade through junior high level. Working with technology lets their imagination run wild and makes their eyes sparkle.
Position:
5th grade teacher
Needs:
I have just had the training for Smartboards and would love to have one in my classroom. I also need a projector to make the Smartboard work. We also need cameras to record our observations, memories, and ideas for our numerous projects.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I grew up in Michigan surrounded by water and somehow transported to the desert of Arizona. When my parents talked about retiring in Arizona I decided to join them. I have taught 1st through 5th grade for the last 18 years. I have my Master's Degree from the University of Texas along with a Reading Specialist Degree and ESL Endorsement. I just finished taking some Science courses at Arizona State University to complete an endorsement for teaching higher-level Science.
Activities:
I am the leader of a group called "Singles who play Pinochle". We meet once a week to chat, eat, and play our favorite card game. I spend lots of time online researching subjects that I will be teaching and creating new ways to instruct that information.
Favorite Books:
The Remarkable Journey of Edward Tulane and all books written by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts)
Favorite Quotes:
Crayola once had a commercial with a line something like:
"All the colors of your imagination" and it has always stayed in the back of my mind. I want my students to experience as much as possible so they have memories that broaden their imaginations.
Interests:
I love playing with my English bulldog, Pugsly, scrapbooking, reading, watching the Food Network, babysitting my adorable nieces, and taking pictures.
Why Do I Teach?:
Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to work with kids. In college, I made the decision to become a teacher and it was the best decision I ever made. Teaching is not just a job for me, but my life.
