Azalea Park Baptist School
Hometown:
Orlando, FL
Class Information:
Room Number: 222
Students per Class: 6
Class Description:
My classroom is composed of six beautiful students and me, their second grade teacher! Each one of my students is different and special in their own way! Each one of them has different needs, they all learn in different ways, and they all have different passions and interests. My classroom is made up of five girls who love animals, reading, and MATH - YES, I SAID MATH! I also have a very caring, kind, quiet boy who has won the title of the "class king" this year, since he is the only boy in the class! He loves to read, write stories, help others, and learn about history.
Position:
2nd Grade Teacher
Needs:
Since we are part of a school that is 100% free lunch, meaning that 87% or more of the families are low-income, we do not have access to the technologies that we would love to provide for our students. We are in current need of tablets, and an interactive (smart) board! Research has shown that adding technology in the classrooms can enrich the students' learning and I believe that providing these tools to my students will help them reach their maximum potential.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy as a teacher is that anything is possible with the right mindset, motivation from those around you, perseverance, and determination. No one should be ignored, rejected, or unattended because they are "different". Every student should have the same opportunities to succeed, no matter their demographics.
Personal Information:
About Me:
My name is Kynaisha Garcia and I am 21 years young. This is my second year teaching and I am loving it! Last year I had the pleasure of teaching a third grade class and this year I am the teacher of a wonderful second grade class. I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and moved to Orlando, Florida at the age of 12. I am engaged to the most amazing man in the world, which I get to marry in November.
College and Degrees:
I received my Associate Degree from Valencia College and I am graduating this December from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with an InterdisciplinaryStudies major, concentrating in Behavioral Sciences and Public Affairs and will receive a minor in Education. The reason why I chose this degree is because I believe that I will have more opportunity to grow and have different learning experiences as I continue my career. I will be able to hold a job as a counselor, a teacher, and even a school's social worker. This degree also helps me reach my goal of opening an Orphanage in the future. I am also looking forward to finishing my Master's Degree in Behavior Therapy in the future.
Activities:
I am currently the cheerleading coach at Azalea Park Baptist School. Cheer was the only activity that I enrolled in when I moved to Orlando when I was 12. I enjoyed it so much and learned so many skills from it that I decided that I was going to make a difference in this group of girls' lives, just like my coaches made a difference in my life.
Favorite Books:
I love the Divergent series! As soon as I saw the movie was coming out, I HAD to finish the whole book series and I decided they were my favorite! I also love the books Wonder and Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. And, as silly as it might sound, Dr. Seuss is one of my favorite authors. He teaches valuable lessons through rhymes and children's books. I think even adults can benefit from reading his books from time to time.
Favorite Quotes:
"Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" - Dr. Seuss "Courage.Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness." - R.J. Palacio "Becomingfearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it." - Veronica Roth "I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do." - Helen Keller
Interests:
I enjoy going to the movie theater with my fiancé and eating popcorn with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top - YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! We go to watch movies at least once a week. Right now, my all time favorites are Hidden Figures, Wonder Woman, and of course (every teacher's favorite) WONDER. I love having new experiences. In the last year, I have gone on the sky coaster, on a helicopter ride, ice-skated for the first time, taken surfing classes, learned how to ride a four-wheeler, and taken trips to local towns that I've never been before!
Employment History:
My first job was at a local Dunkin' Donuts - America runs on Dunkin'! Then, I worked at Payless Shoes for about a year before becoming a teacher. I started teaching last year. My first group was an amazing group of third grade students. I came in mid-year and they received me with open hearts. I taught there until May and decided to transfer schools. I now teach at Azalea Park Baptist School and I am loving every moment of it.
Why Do I Teach?:
I love teaching because every day there is a new opportunity to impact a young life. The students in my classroom and in every classroom across the world are our future leaders. I see in my students future doctors, veterinarians, teachers, lawyers, lawmakers, and even the future presidents! I feel privileged to be able to plant a grain of knowledge and passion in these children and to be able to help them reach their goals every year.
