I work with young adults with developmental disabilities. As part of our educational program we enable young adults to realize their talents, strengths and capabilities in order to live and work in our community as independently as possible. Knowing that instruction is the key that will unlock our young adults’ personal and academic potential, we work toward our mission by integrating functional literacy, functional math, social studies and current events, occupational and vocational training, technology, the arts, and community-based instruction for all students. Students learn best when the content is meaningful and instruction reflects their interests and capabilities. We strive for active participation and first hand experiences as the means for our students to reach their highest potential.
Position:
TEACHER
Needs:
I would like to have I-Pads for my students. I have 12 students. I would like each of them to have an I-pad.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is that EVERYONE can learn. If you approach the person with their learning style then they will learn. Do not attempt to teach everyone with the same strategy because it may not work. First learn the learning style of each person you want to teach. Also assessment drives the instruction. It is like a GPS guides you where you should go.
I also believe in that a great teacher is the one who loves kids and who loves their job.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love teaching. I would like to share my knowledge and make a difference in my students’ lives. When I see any improvement with my students then I get happy like a little child who just received the best present. I learn from them as well. I love my job, I love teaching and I love my students. I see it like I am their parent when they are with me. I protect them like I am their parent and teach them what is right and what is wrong. I know one thing I am a very important person in their life.
I am NOT only their parent when they are with me; I am someone who will CHANGE their future because what I teach will impact their future. I work with students who have multiple disabilities and I enjoy being with them every second of it. My goal is to teach them skills to make them as independent as possible. I know that EVERYONE CAN LEARN. Once again, I love teaching, my job, and my kids.
