Guion Creek Middle School
Class Information:
Room Number: 108
Students per Class: 150
Class Description:
We have a diverse group of students. I teach a High Ability class, an Honors class, and 4 General Education classes. Most of my students are black or hispanic with some white students mixed in. They are at all levels from Level 1 ELL students to special needs children to High Ability students.
Position:
Science Teacher
Needs:
We need to have more technology available for the students to use in the classroom. This would also include Science kits for the students to "do" Science instead of just sitting around and listening to what Science is.
My Philosophy:
I believe that all students can learn no matter where they come from or what label they may have. Technology is universal and something students love to use. Integrating more technology to the curriculum allows the students another way of looking at Science and reaches each student no matter what their exposure to it has been in the past.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I attended Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI). I graduated in 2004 with a BS in Elementary Education and a Science endorsement for grades 1-9.
Activities:
I enjoy gardening and am the coordinator of the Outdoor Learning Environment at the middle school. I also run the recycling program at our school.
Interests:
I enjoy gardening, reading, traveling, and spending time with my family.
Employment History:
I have taught the past 5 years in an urban school setting. The past 3 years have been at Guion Creek Middle School. I am beginning my 4th year in August.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I enjoy seeing the students who once hated Science actually begin enjoying it. I love seeing a student's face when they have succeeded or solved a problem. Teaching is challenging, and I look forward to the everyday challenge of grabbing a student's interest in a topic and expanding their current knowledge or introducing them to a whole new concept. I also learn from my students and they teach me as well as I teach them.
