Class Description:
I teach music at Gunnison Elementary School in Gunnison, CO. My room is filled with kids singing, moving, laughing, playing instruments, making music!
Position:
Elementary Music Teacher
Needs:
The technology in my classroom is limited to my personal property that I use daily. My digital piano keyboard is eight years old and uses floppy disks. A new, updated digital keyboard would be amazing. I recently bought an iPod and speakers - indispensable equipment! It would be better if the school owned an iPod and speakers then the equipment would be available for substitute teachers and after I retire. There are so many ways I would use technology to teach my students if I had a Smart Board and five computers for the students to work on in my classroom. For instance, I've just begun a jazz unit with 5th grade, but am unable to share the wonderful tools and games available on pbs.org's website (Ken Burns's "Jazz") A Smart Board and student computers would be fantastic and would allow for differentiation in learning styles in a dimension that I don't even approach at this point. There are excellent music software programs available and, at this point, I can't share any with my students because of the lack of computers. Smart Board and software. My software wish list includes: Sibelius Student Network Pack, Groovy Music, Sibelius Compass, Sibelius Instruments, Sibelius Starclass. I love using technology to teach music and, especially, composition! It would be amazing to have an electronic piano keyboard for each computer - imagine how much the students could play piano and compose!

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because it's the most fascinating work I've ever done. Figuring out how to reach each child and watching them all grow and learn is fun, challenging and rewarding.
