Personal Information:
About Me:
I am an athlete, a wife, a good teacher. I am a forward thinker and go beyond what is expected of me. I am sensitive and care what will happen to the children that I teach. I work hard in helping the children do their best. I was a cross country coach for 12 years at Montgomery High school in Santa Rosa, CA. In 2008 I helped our school win the Governors Challenge by encouraging each child in the school to exercise at least 5 days a week for an hour. Our prize was $5,000. The whole fund went into improving our playground.
College and Degrees:
Graduated from Santa Clara University in General Humanities, received my teaching credentials at San Francisco State University (multiple subjects and Special Education Physically challenged), received my Resource Specialist Credential and Physical Education credentials at Sonoma State University
Activities:
run, swim, kayak, travel, yoga, hike, backpack, watch movies, sing, dance, play the fiddle, read, sew, play with my cats, plant my garden and work in the yard
Favorite Books:
Harry Potter series, mysteries, historical fiction
Favorite Quotes:
Be the Best you can be!
Interests:
I like to learn about different cultures, cook, spend time with my friends, read a variety of books, enjoy when the alumni students come back and visit and tell me what is going on in their lives.
Employment History:
(9/82-85)-J.S. Robinson Elementary, Plant City, FL (physically challenged), (9/85-10/87)-RiverviewElementary in Riverview, FL (physically challenged student), (11/87-93) Steele Lane Annex, Santa Rosa CA (Physically Challenged), (9/93-2005) Brook Hill Elementary School, Santa Rosa, CA (Resource Specialist learning disabled), (9/2005- present)- Helen Lehman, Santa Rosa, CA (Physical Education Teacher)
Why Do I Teach?:
I love working with children and seeing them "get it!". Teaching is a passion. I am not the typical PE teacher who throws the ball out on the play ground and have the students play a game. I teach the students about how they can take care of their body inside and out. I teach nutrition, fitness and physical activities that students could apply to their daily life and beyond. I am an athlete and lead a healthy and active life and I like to share my experiences and zest for life with the children that I teach. I not only teach physical education I am a true example of what I teach (I walk the talk).
