Mrs.
Add Me as a Friend!
Orwell Village Elem School
Hometown:
Orwell
Class Information:
Room Number: 1
Students per Class: 15
Class Description:
We are a class of delightful, motivated learners. We enjoy adventures and exploring through hands-on activities but we also love to read as well as listen to stories. We share our skills by mentoring classmates and other students whenever an opportunity presents itself. We love our town and hope to learn a lot more about it through investigation this year.
Position:
First Grade Teacher
Needs:
While we are fortunate to have several classroom computers, we lack cameras and equipment (photo paper, ink, binding materials, laminator and material, etc.) that would enable us to publish materials exhibiting our work (both digitally and on paper). We would really like to be able to write and publish picture books for younger children.
Personal Information:
About Me:
Although I am not a Vermont native, I have lived in Orwell for 35 years. My husband is a 7th generation Orwellian, making our four (now grown) children 8th generation. I feel as though this is where I was always meant to be.
College and Degrees:
BS Elementary Education University of Vermont 1974 MEd Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction University of Vermont 2005
Activities:
Member of Orwell Fortnightly Club (Women's Club), St. Paul Church Family Life Committee, Cast-Off 8s Square Dance Club, many school and district committees; any kind of family activity, playing with my five young grandchildren.
Favorite Books:
Any by Mary Higgans Clark, Nicholas Sparks, and others. Enjoy mysteries, historical romance, and all children's literature. The Time Traveler's Wife and Water For Elephants are particular recent favorites.
Favorite Quotes:
"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." (translation of Thumper's words to Bambi)
Interests:
travel, sewing/crafts, cake decorating, summers at Lake Hortonia, reading, sudoku, walking, baking, square dancing, watching movies, especially adventure, mysteries and "feel good" movies
Employment History:

Why Do I Teach?:
I absolutely love working with children and never consider my daily walk to school "going to work", but rather just "going to school". I learn from my students on a daily basis and can't imagine doing anything else!
