Blades Elementary School
Hometown:
St. Louis
Class Information:
Students per Class: 15-20
Class Description:
My classroom is one where I try my best to get my students excited about what they are learning. I try to integrate technology as much as I can. It is a great motivator for my students. They love anything that is hands on. Many times it is difficult to get the students to leave my resource room and go back to their regular classroom. They want to stay and keep working. I have done my best to create a place where my students feel safe and cared about.
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
We are in need of some new technology in our classroom. In particular, we would love a flip video camera. We could use it in our social skills class to create videos on appropriate behavior. In writing we could write plays and then make a video recording the performances. I feel like the possibilities are endless!
My Philosophy:
I feel that it is important for me to not just educate my students, but to also form a relationship with them. I try to get to know my students as a person. Then I try to integrate their interests into my instruction as much as possible. This creates a fun learning environment and creates a feeling of safety and trust for the students.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I have a bachelor of arts in psychology and a master of arts in special education K-12.
Activities:
I love the outdoors, going hiking and camping. I also enjoy photography.
Favorite Books:
My all time favorite book is "Owl Moon". Reading it always brings me back to my childhood exploring in the outdoors.
Favorite Quotes:
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~Leo Buscaglia
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I have always enjoyed helping others, especially kids. It gives me a feeling of satisfaction that I cannot receive from any other activity. It gives me an opportunity to spend my day with some amazing children who are constantly teaching me new things and challenging me to be better. I love the look on their faces when they finally understand a new concept. It as if you can actually see the lightbulb go off in their head. Nothing else can really bring a smile to my face more than that. It truly is my passion.
